Home Economics Practical
At Mariny Schools, we are proud to combine theory with hands-on experience, especially in skill-based subjects like Home Economics.
This term, our students took part in a highly engaging Home Economics Practical session that brought classroom learning to life.
Held in our fully equipped practical lab, the session focused on basic cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen management.
Students from Junior and Senior Secondary classes prepared a variety of local and continental dishes, including:
-
Jollof rice and vegetable sauce
-
Moi Moi and fried plantain
-
Cakes, Pancakes, fruit salad, and smoothies
Under the supervision of their Home Economics teachers, students demonstrated proper food handling, time management, table setting, and teamwork.
It was not only an academic exercise but also a life skills workshop that promoted independence, responsibility, and creativity.
Why It Matters:
These practical sessions are essential in helping students:
-
Apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings
-
Develop essential life skills such as budgeting and nutrition
-
Cultivate self-reliance and domestic responsibility
-
Discover potential careers in hospitality, catering, and nutrition
Parents are encouraged to support these skills at home by giving their children opportunities to practice what they’ve learned.
At Mariny Schools, we don’t just teach we prepare students for life.
